Mike Christian is an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. With an affinity for the sea, he was a lifeguard, water safety instructor, and certified diver before attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and earning a degree in marine science. He has graduate degrees from the University of Southampton, England as a Fulbright Scholar, the University of Maryland, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Serving aboard a number of Coast Guard cutters in positions from Deck Watch Officer to Commanding Officer, he has been involved in many challenging and exciting missions. These include saving lives in heavy seas during winter storms, seizing illegal drugs, and rescuing hundreds of people in danger of perishing at sea during treacherous quests in search of better lives.
