The author’s first experience with writing was in 1985 when he was presented with a plaque by the Sistrunk Historical festival.  Community press had published the book, entitled A Walk Through the Neighborhood.  The main library of Broward County has the listing.  The book was created to help assist new readers in the literacy campaign.  The coauthor was instrumental in telling his story of how having a literacy problem made his life difficult.  His story was combined with three other people stories and it produced a book that was distributed in the neighborhood to people that was interested in learning how to read.  He believes although a lack of literacy is a disability, it does not determine the future of an individual if there is firm belief in oneself.  By his stumbling block with literacy and by the leaps in his achievement, he believes his style and approach as a writer give the readers the best of two worlds.
