Synopsis

"Far more than a mere list of titles, this volume describes 80 award-winning authors and their works written since 1940. Included as part of each entry for the authors are a bibliography of their works, very brief biographical information, plot summaries for most works, the author's honors, and a summary of usual themes and styles. . . . Arranged within the same alphabetical sequence as the author entries are entries for people, places, and events in history as well as for the main characters in the works, each annotated to show the book in which it appears. . . . There are also two useful appendixes: one makes it possible to locate book titles by the period in which they are set, and the other lists them by readability level from age seven through age fourteen, with interest levels noted for each. . . . Teachers and school librarians will find this book useful for grades 4-12, as will public librarians." Reference Books Bulletin
