While William and Margaret Bordman were driving on California Highway 395 on the way to their home in Los Angeles, they were hit by an unexpected snow storm so they stopped on the side of the road where Wlliam installed the chains that they carried in the car.
Just as he was finished, he was attacked by a huge wolf and fought him off even though he had been bitten. Margaret, who saw it happen, quickly pulled a pistol from her purse which being a retired FBI agent, she always carried. Being an excellent shot, she killed the wolf with a hit on the head with one bullet.
Just as she came over to William who looked dazed, she herself was bitten by another wolf, which William killed with baseball bat that he kept in the back of the suv.
Quite shaken by what had happened to them, they used the first aid kit to cover their wounds after spraying disinfectant on them, and drove on to the next small town and registered in a small motel to wait out the strengthening storm.
They soon discover that their bodies were transforming into unknown very young people, and realize that the dead wolves had actually been werewolves.
Also, they find rather quickly that the entire little town was populated by a pack of werewolves who did not practice eating human flesh, and they are recognized as the human forms of the werewolves who had attacked them.
No one bears them any malice for killing their attackers, and they soon become integrated as outstanding members of the pack.
