I stayed up until 2 am just so I could finish this book because when I put it down to try and sleep my mind was in overdrive thinking about these characters.

Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Day, America's premier author of provocative fiction, delivers the debut novel from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin.

The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He'd only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn't mind how much it was going to cost me...

AFTERBURN was very well written. It was engaging and entertaining. The only disappointment I had with the book was the ending. I wanted more!

Despite the fact I didn’t see the end coming when it does, nothing takes away from a Sylvia Day book. I love everything about this short story, and November isn’t that far away to wait for Aftershock.

Now, this is a novella. It reads like perhaps it’s Cosmo/Harlequin’s version of a serial novel. Don’t let that turn you off.

A deliciously rich “reading-snack” that was short-ish, sure… but it had plenty of steam and romance to indulge and entertain me.

I was surprised that the book was told in 1st person POV from Gia's perspective. That isn't a common POV for contemporary romance. It seemed to work though. I'm interested to see if the book stays entirely in her POV and if this is a mainstay style for the line.

What we quickly find is that Gia doesn't shy away from anything, she knows her own value, and she knows what she wants without any fear of being overt on how to get that. Because of how she handles herself, she manages to score the job and her life is changed forever. Definately a book to look out for...

I know enough about Gia, but I want to know more about Jax. He exudes power and sex appeal, but I don't know what makes him tick. What are his vulnerabilities?

By the end, I LOVED this story. I was attached to the characters, I wanted to see what would happen and I definitely want to know how Gia is going to make Jax pay for hurting her and vice versa.
