Karen Pandell is the award-winning author of a number of books for young children, including I LOVE YOU BABY, FROM HEAD TO TOE! and WHERE'S STRETCH? A Lift-the-Flap Book. SAINT FRANCIS SINGS TO BROTHER SUN is her first book for older readers. Of it she says, "The first time I heard 'The Canticle of Brother Sun, ' I was spellbound by its powerful simplicity. Written more than eight centuries ago, the words of the Canticle remain as fresh and vibrant as nature itself. Through the Canticle, Saint Francis sings to each one of us today, child and grownup alike." Bijou Le Tord has written and illustrated many children's books, including A BLUE BUTTERFLY: A STORY ABOUT CLAUDE MONET. About this book, she says, "A funny thing happened to me while illustrating the extraordinary stories of Saint Francis. I moved to France, where wild animals live so near, where one can see in all seasons, in all kinds of weather, a fox, a hare, a hawk, sometimes a boar, tilling the soil with its hard snout, or a small whistling eagle called a milan and the little, colorful singing birds Saint Francis loved. Almost each one found a place in my paintings." This is her first book with Candlewick Press. Art Wolfe was born on September 13, 1951 in Seattle. He grew up loving the outdoors and has a cherished memory of coming face to face with a moose as he was canoeing on the Bowron Lakes in Canada. He attended the University of Washington and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Arts Education. At that time photography was just an elective, but he soon incorporated his knowledge of the arts into his love of photography. Because he was new to the field, he couldn't get the cooperation of traditional publishers so he established his own publishing company in 2000. With his company, The Wildlands Press, he put out his first book - The Living Wild. This gave him the recognition he needed and the Outstanding Nature Photographer of the Year Award from the North American Nature Photography Association. He also received the first ever Rachel Carson Award from the National Audubon Society. In 2000 he was awarded the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography in Nature and Environment. Art Wolfe is one of the most celebrated nature and wildlife photographers of our day. His passion is for creating books - 45 in 25 years - and for providing photographs for them. Art Wolfe then went on to the realm of television with the same energy he used exploring the world. Some of the shows he worked on were Techniques of the Masters, American Photo Safari and Travels to the edge. Nancy Sheehan is a dancer whose understanding of energy and movement has translated into winning photography. A writer and illustrator, she lives in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
