Synopsis

This year's volume features a memoir by Adriaan Blaauw describing his education and career as professor at the universities of Leiden and Groningen in the Netherlands and as director of the European Southern Observatory in Groningen. Fifteen articles follow, each summarizing current research. Among the topics are astrophysics with presolar stardust, the first stars, ISO spectroscopy of gas and dust, neutron star cooling, secular evolution and the formation of pseudobulges in disk galaxies and young stars near the sun.
