Weiner proves yet again that women can be their own worst enemies...So much material recycled from earlier novels (Certain Girls, 2008, etc.) that even fans will feel déjà vu.

Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner comes "a smart, witty fairy tale for grownups" (Maureen Corrigan, NPR).

Addie Downs and Valerie Adler will be best friends forever. That’s what Addie believes after Valerie moves across the street when they’re both nine years old. But in the wake of betrayal during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school’s scapegoat.

Flash-forward fifteen years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents’ house in their small hometown of Pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She’s just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you’re the only one who can help."

Best Friends Forever is a grand, hilarious, edge-of-your-seat adventure; a story about betrayal and loyalty, family history and small-town secrets. It’s about living through tragedy, finding love where you least expect it, and the ties that keep best friends together

The only issues seemed to be around the ending. While it was unexpected, some of the final elements worked out a little too easily...Overall though, Best Friends Forever is a delightful, emotional novel...

The thriller-suspense aspect of the story, while thin to begin with, fizzled out almost completely and leaves the reader feeling a little cheated since that plot line never seemed to come together. Overall though, Best Friends Forever is a delightful, emotional novel...

Addie's story rates a second (and, perhaps, even a third) read, too, because its unrelenting depiction of loneliness, as well as the myriad ways people can surprise themselves and each other deserve to be savored, again and again.

With its girl-on-the-lam main characters, "BFF" has less comfortable warmth than some of Weiner's previous works, but enough to keep me pleasantly looking forward to book 8.

For a fun palate-cleanser of a book, Best Friends Forever was just fine. As far as Jennifer Weiner goes, In Her Shoes was, in my opinion, a much better book than this one, and if you’ve never read Weiner, I’d say that’s a better place to start.

Best Friends Forever is a story about friendship, forgiveness and reunions. I found myself reminiscing about my own childhood...I found it to be entertaining with some humorous moments and true take into what makes and how to be a best friend (BFF).

If it wasn’t already obvious, Best Friends Forever is a mixed bag of intertwining plots, and several flashbacks. Normally juggling that much can be overwhelming or badly handled, but I really liked how it all came together. Definitely worth a read!
