I was born in Torrance and am a 3rd generation Californian. I graduated from Oxnard High School and UCSB with a degree in Russian. I chose that field, as I had been a Russian translator in the Air Force. However, I found myself drawn to social services and worked a great deal of my life with youth.I was born James Michael Herron but have always gone by Mike Herron. While writing my first book I decided to use the pen name J. Michael Herron. "Black Diamonds" is a love story set in Alaska filled with legend and romance. This is the first in a trilogy.I love the outdoors, especially the hiking around Blairsville, Georgia, where my wife Susan and I now live. I also love fishing but must admit I haven't done much since leaving Oregon and Alaska.I am looking forward to meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones.
