He worked at his hometown newspaper, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, before joining CBS News, where he has been one of very few correspondents who have covered all four major Washington beats. A member of the Broadcasting Hall of Fame, he was named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress in 2008. He and his wife live in Washington, DC.
