Joanna was just another woman who worked at the town stables. Her days were filled with the same trivial and menial jobs of taking care of the horses. She didn't complain. It was a simple life and a good life. Nothing to worry about except for the rampaging band of thugs and their Lords that showed up every now and then.
Joanna hated the Lords and their men. Every time they showed up, they would leave behind a swathe of destruction. But she learned to simply keep her eyes down and let them go by. On the rare few occasions that she did receive some attention, she had always been able to deflect it.
At least until she met Lord Bartholomew, whose pale face and eyes seemed just a little bit off from the average Lord that rode through her town.
