At forty-one, Roxie Whitson is content with her life. She's got a decent job, some good friends, and she's moved past the divorce that her husband asked for so abruptly years ago. There is still the occasional nightmare stemming from the suicide of a school friend, but even those are now few and far between. Unfortunately, life sometimes throws a curveball, and it's pitched Roxie a doozie. Her boss has eliminated her position, and there's an unwelcome phone call from her mom, asking that Roxie close out her great-aunt's estate in her hometown. Being back in Derry, Tennessee, is even more unsettling for Roxie than she could have imagined. She meets three men; all of whom have a part in shattering her sense of control, but for vastly different reasons. The old ghost of her childhood friend is not as easily laid to rest as she had hoped, and she ultimately finds herself grappling with the consequences of a desperate act that threatens to haunt her for years to come.
