Synopsis

Cement Pillow is based on the true life events of author Jimmy James. A homeless and unemployed felon, James desperately seeks refuge when his unemployment is cut off and he runs out of options. Employers reject him, shelters refuse him, and James reconsiders the promise he made to God to give up the lucrative life of gangs and drugs. James is a man of his word though, and continues to swim upstream while fighting the undertow of the "old way" Determined to beat the odds, James eventually finds a place to lay his head and accepts a minimum wage job at a packaging company. Although he faces a lot more rejection and judgment for his past, he takes every shift he can get and finds a way to keep his head held high. After a recurring dream and a giant leap of faith, James invests every cent that he had saved for housing into a risky and uncalculated trip to NY. From the ice cold floor of a shelter to a lavish hotel in Manhattan, James chases his lifelong dream. Jimmy James believes that a whole community can be judged by the way it treats its homeless people. He experienced the kindness and generosity of Appleton, WI first-hand. For this reason, he will donate 10% of all profits from his book series to both the Fox Valley Warming Shelter and The Salvation Army Transitional Housing Program.
