It, like all Dresden novels, was one heck of a page turner. I devoured this book in about eight hours spread out across two days and that's fast even for me.

Synopsis

“A can’t-miss entry in one of the best urban-fantasy series currently being published.”—Booklist (starred review)

Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry's Dresden’s lover—until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her caught between humanity and the relentless bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. She disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it. Now, she needs Harry’s help more than ever.

For the vengeful Duchess of the Red Court has discovered a secret Susan has long kept from everyone—including Harry—and she plans to use it. To prevail, Harry may have to unleash the full fury of his untapped power—and he may have no choice but to embrace the darkness within himself.

Because this time, he’s fighting to save his child.

There are big relationship reveals, excellent explosions...But, taking into account that I would rather be reading the new Dresden Files book than doing pretty much anything else, Changes didn't pull me in as powerfully as I was expecting.

If you are already a Dresden fan, I would encourage you to read Changes if you haven't already done so. This book was a blast and somehow Butcher continues to turn out amazing, entertaining stories in Dresden's world.

Changes is a fantastic novel that guarantees to leave Dresden Files fans begging for more. Not to mention leaving them with questions like “Where will Harry go from here?” and “How far can he travel down such a dark path?”

If I may have felt that there were previous books that treaded water a little in places, this one definitely doesn’t. This is where everything that has gone before counts and for the reader makes what happens here have an emotional punch...

Butcher's delivered a book that builds on crisis after escalating crisis...He's also earned the equivalent of an author's medal of valor because "Changes" tears down almost everything we know about Dresden and his world.

Changes is a welcome-shaking up for fans of Jim Butcher's world, and should serve as proof that the series—far from being an endless cycle of scrapes and successes that never really lead anywhere—is genuinely worth getting into.

Read it for the action. Read it for the adventure. But more than that, read it for the journey...with Changes, Butcher has crafted an epic story about finding the power within yourself to do what must be done in spite of the obstacles in your path.

With Changes, book twelve in the Dresden Files, Jim Butcher manages to deliver the best story in the series yet. This book is one of only a few I have ever read a second time immediately after finishing it through the first time.
