The time table is all messed up. Enduring friendships are made within a month. Zoey aquires three boyfriends within less time. People and vamps are getting killed all in a matter of months. What the heck!

Synopsis

Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series" (Romantic Times), in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey's horrid step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth…

Chosen and the House of Night series are perfect for fantasy fangirls, although with one or two uses of the f-word and some sex, it's probably better kept to the older teens, sixteen and above.

Chosen is another gripping and hugely readable book in the House of Night series. Full of dark intrigue, mystery, blood and death - there is plenty here to entertain vampire and fantasy fans alike.

I have to say, “Chosen” was a major downer of a book...The poor teenage allusions to pop culture have gotten a little better, or maybe I’ve just gotten used to them. Zoey and her friends actually have meaningful dialogue to advance the plot.

Overall, I liked the writing style and the plot line was good, but I would suggest reading the first two novels, Marked and Betrayed before you read Chosen. To find out if Zoey helps Stevie – Ray, how she manages to keep her boyfriend, and how she deals with all the other drama in her life, you’ll have to read the book!

The House of Night series is addicting, and Chosen is a sexy and captivating read. Similar to the previous two, this one has a little more adult content.

There was an improv Othello scene that melted me into a puddle, and then froze me solid. This series gives me what I want. Swooning is fun!

There's no way this review can do it justice, but I'll just say that The Chosen One is a fantastic, daring story, and is an absolute must-read. I very highly recommended it.

Zoey has mostly stopped referring to her "exotic Cherokee looks" on every other page. Stevie Ray's story arc is decent. The pop culture references continue to be dated...I really want to know what happens next, in a let's-look-at-the-train-wreck sort of way.

The bad guys – and I won’t mention any names, just in case – were delightfully devious in this book (yes, I like alliteration :P). There seem to be a couple of factions of them, which adds another dimension to the plot – at least for me, because I mean how far can you trust a bad guy to be telling the truth?

I just can’t help but be bothered by the way things are being portrayed in this series. Not all of Christianity is “cult-like”, as the People of Faith (in the books) are being put forth... Regardless, I still am enjoying –and being sucked in by — this storyline, and will probably get the next book in the series...

As before, one of the reasons I like this series so much is the real humanity of the vampire cast...However, I was very uncomfortable with the whole illicit sex scene. Yes, I know that it was important to the plot, and it did emphasize Zoey’s immaturity, but really wasn’t there another way?
