It's the day of the county fair!

Three-legged races, a “Smartest Pig” contest, the Ferris wheel—what could be more fun? But the Greenstalks’ car won’t start, so they’ll need some help getting there. . . .

Cows to the Rescue is the fabulous new book in John Himmelman’s hilarious barnyard saga. It follows Chickens to the Rescue and Pigs to the Rescue, bringing back the fun with brand new mishaps and brand moo—er, new—problem-solvers.

Just step outside on a summer's evening and listen. Almost everywhere you will hear a concert of sounds made by insects-often quite LOUD! Kids love to sing along, so why not? And with a new children's picture book in hand, this is a perfect teachable moment! In his new book, naturalist and author John Himmelman offers children the opportunity to see what these noisy bugs look like, how they make their noises (and it's not with their throats) and join in the sing-along fun.Scientifically accurate illustrations show the insects in all their unique, buggy glory. Himmelman offers teachers and parents tips and activities to do with children, as well as information on how the bugs actually make the sounds. And Himmelman offers a web page where kids can listen to recordings of what the bugs actually sound like. When John Himmelman was eight years old, he started his first "Bug Club" in a friends garage, and he's been playing with insects ever since. Even now, on summer nights John is often in his wooded yard in Killingworth, Connecticut, flashlight in hand, searching for litle creatures. Some if his most exciting discoveries are found just a few feet from his house!John co-founded the Connecticut Butterfly Association, is past president of the New Haven Bird Club, and both gives nature programs and makes school visits. He is an author and illustrator of over 75 books for children. John's enthusiasm extends to his family-his wife is an art teacher, his son is an artist, and his daughter is an actress.

Himmelman’s illustrations are such an artful eyeful—snappily colored and gloriously comic—that it is easy to overlook the pleasure of the simple text, a little motor that in many ways drives the whole production forward.
