Tsering is the mother of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Thondup is the grandson of Diki Tsering. He is the nephew of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He was appointed by His Holiness as a special assistant and travels with him extensively. He is a businessman and is President of the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre in Darjeeling and is an elected member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile.
