Synopsis

Full series completely revised and updated on February 7, 2013

Five hackers. One game. Ten thousand Infected Undead.
Breaking in was easy. Getting out is a killer.

SERIES DESCRIPTION:
In the center of Long Island's forbidden wasteland, overseen by a powerful corporation known as Arc Properties, is GAMELAND, a massive virtual reality arcade where the rich and privileged act out their brutal fantasies. Using cybernetic links and holographic setups, Operators pit their Undead Players against each other in a high stakes game of violence, money and power, while the poor can only watch the horrifying and powerfully addictive contests on State-controlled media streams.

Or they can volunteer to become Players themselves. Highly illegal, of course, but the promise of fame and money can be a powerful lure. But these aren't the only reasons for breaking the law. Sometimes, it's as simple as revenge.

EPISODE 3: Deadman's Switch
Unable to escape from Long Island because of the failsafe device implanted inside their brains, the group digs in until they can devise a way to neutralize it. Jessie is anointed as their leader despite Jake's claims that she is unfit. A final desperate attempt is made to leave, setting into motion a sequence of events that will result in one of them dead, another infected, and all of them running for their lives.

From the Back Cover
It's the near future and every New Merican citizen is required to provide the government with three years of Life Service Commitment. The LSC is usually fulfilled in the military or civil service. Sometimes it's in entertainment.

In all cases, the LSC begins after death.

Now there are others who want a piece of the Undead pie--private citizens, giant corporations, even other nations--and they won't stop until they get what they want. Caught in the middle are a half dozen young game hackers and code jackers. Believing they're secretly breaking into Long Island, the world's largest Forbidden Zone and abandoned zombie wasteland, for no better reason than to say they can, they quickly find themselves immersed in a struggle where the Undead are currency and those who control them wield all the power.

eFiction magazine calls Saul an author armed with "a PhD and a whacked out sense of humor."Saul spent his formative years in a leaky century-old house overlooking the Erie Canal in Upstate New York. His bedroom was a refurbished attic, which he shared with all manner of creatures, not all, he is convinced, flesh and blood. After bouncing around the US and Europe for several years, he settled down to pursue a career in the sciences, opting to study the mysteries of human molecular genetics. But even positions as an experimental biologist, teacher, manager and biotech entrepreneur couldn't keep him from his true passion as a storyteller. He now writes speculative fiction full time from his home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although his house is now attic-less and waterproof, he continues to be haunted by a variety of creatures, including a wife, kids, four dogs, three cats, six chickens, a wayward rooster, and one very grumpy possum. They are all flesh and blood.Except, maybe, for the possum, which he's convinced is the reincarnated spirit of Jack Torrance.
