The alternating perspectives are bothersome at times, due to the similarity between Tris and Tobias’s first-person narratives. However, for those who have faithfully followed these five factions...this final installment will capture and hold attention until the divisive final battle has been waged.

Though flawed, the story provides a thought-provoking metaphor for crucial conflicts of adolescence, as have its predecessors.

The biggest shift is that the new book alternates between using Tris and Four as narrator...It...allows for a surprise ending that is gutsier and much less predictable than the rest of the series would lead one to expect.

...as constructed for the ravenous YA audience as it is, that message becomes so watered down that it renders Allegiant into just another packaged treat for its target demographic.

Tris, Tobias and even some of the characters previously considered villains have internalized this lesson by the end of the series, and it will stay with readers after they have turned that final page.

Despite a few lingering flaws, Allegiant is still well worth the investment. With the same gusto of its predecessors, the reader is truly transported to a strange and exciting new world with high stakes for characters you can’t help enjoying the journey with.

Honestly, aside from a few small gripes, I’m not sure Roth could have done much better in terms of wrapping up the Divergent series.

The main reasons I am giving Allegiant four stars instead of five have to do with events that have to be considered spoilers. A week later I am still questioning decisions and actions made by characters in the last quarter of the book.

Overall, I’m sure some people are going to adore Veronica Roth’s bravery but for me it was inadequate after the awesome build-up we have had to get to this point. One thing this book did convey was a lot of emotion, from me – loss, heartache, betrayal.

I loved Allegiant, finally an ending that doesn't leave me feeling like I was bamboozled! The ending, though devastating, is a realistic ending and for that I have to give the author props. She made some very hard choices.

While I wasn't completely happy with how Allegiant ended, I do still love the Divergent trilogy and I won't forget it any time soon! Also, the fact that I was conflicted over the ending will probably make it linger in my mind...and my heart even longer.
