Everyone on the Island of Martha's Vineyard knows Cynthia Riggs. Descended from a long line of sea captains and their strong and independent women-folk, she's the 13th generation to live in the old family home. Her father was an experiment for Thomas A. Edison, her mother, a poet and writer. She has worked as a ferryboat captain and a sailing instructor, and she was the seventh woman to set foot on the South Pole. She took up mystery writing at age 70, and does it while running her bed and breakfast, catering to poets and writers.
