Without meeting my gaze, he reached out to me, brushing his fingertips along the length of my arm on the way to my hand, leaving a trail of goosebumps from his freezing touch.

He was familiar and somehow alien all at once. My blood boiled with craven desire to know him more intimately. It was like I was a fangless vampire, one desirous of flesh rather than blood.

“What's happening?” I whispered, barely able to make words.

His steel blue gaze loomed over me and his dark brow furrowed. I heard him grit his teeth so tight they emitted a sickening squeak.

Instead of feeling fear, my nerves tingled with pleasure. My darkest depths warmed and I moved in so close my nose brushed his.
