In Escape from the Tower, Samantha, age 11, and Henry, age 10, travel back to 15th century England. They meet a boy named Edward who has just found out his father has died. Even though Edward is only twelve, he is the new king of England and will now be known as King Edward V. There are many forces at work to make sure this boy is not crowned. The Duke of Gloucester, Edward's uncle, has his eye on the throne and plans to usurp it. Queen Elizabeth, Edward's mother, is so frightened for her son and fears Gloucester's growing power. Gloucester knows that he must acquire Edward if his plans to become king are to come to fruition. Through deception and manipulation, Gloucester takes Edward into his protection, securing him in the Tower. But what good is having Edward if his younger brother, Richard, is still beyond his reach? He would be next in line for the throne. Gloucester soon corrects this. Death is now the only fate that awaits Edward and Richard, the two Princes. Can Samantha and Henry stand by and let this happen? Edward and Richard have become their friends and they are determined to do everything in their power to help them escape!
