When an experiment goes wrong, Maria Presk and a small group of her employees find themselves blessed with something approaching eternal youth. The benefits are obvious, but Maria knows they'll soon become permanent residents in secret government labs if they don't escape. But there's no place on Earth where they're safe--which is why she comes up with the daring plan to leave Earth entirely and head for the stars. Once they arrive at their planned destination, Maria learns that the stars aren't empty at all--they're claimed. And humanity has a struggle if it's to earn their right to thrive--or even to survive.
