She walked up to the bar and waited for the bartender to come, already feeling a little bored and wondering why she’d put so much effort into the costume. It wasn’t like there was anyone here she wanted to go home with. A hand tickled the small of her back and then squeezed her waist and she closed her eyes, already knowing who it was.

“Hello, little girl.” Elliot murmured in her ear. He sounded like he was almost laughing, and she turned toward him, eyes narrowed and lips parted, only to laugh too, eyebrows raised as she took in his costume.

“Hello, Mr. Wolf.”

The bartender brought her beer, and Elliot watched with interest as Laura reached into the top of her stocking to pull out a slim wallet.

“I’ll pay for it,” he said, after she’d gotten it out, and put a ten on the bar. “You should put that back.” And he leaned lazily on the bar and smirked as she refused to make eye contact and blushingly put the wallet away.

“Thanks,” she said, still studiously avoiding eye contact. He brushed a hand down her back and then along the bottom of her skirt and the top of her stockings so that she shuddered and then closed it around her waist again, pulling her into a hug.

“What, are you mad at me?”

“You really shouldn’t . . .”

“I can still look,” he said, but he released her, frowning, and picking up her drink he headed back toward the table where everyone else was. He set her drink down in front of an empty chair and walked over to a pool table.
