Synopsis

Freedom: Retrospective and Prospective is the product of the University of the West Indies Mona Academic conference, which in 2007, joined local and international bodies in commemorating the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans. The pieces in this volume come together around the central focus of critically examining development as a process of realising freedom while treating with various problems presented by the external environment. Themes explored include memorialisation, reparations, indigenous knowledge systems and migration and Diaspora.
