Plot-wise, the ending is dedicated towards being satisfying, tying off this long series to a successful close. However, the final battle seemed a little strained and short, as though not much work was spent making it feel like the final battle.

My major complaint about Gates is that Cruz doesn’t even attempt to give her readers a summary of the background of previous storylines. I assume that either she or her publisher don’t want to give away the plots of the other books...

Fans who have traversed countries and time zones with the gang over the years get the conclusion of a big battle, but it is so unimaginatively written, it might have been a description of a tennis match.
