Far more people than is realised have encountered ghostly soldiers - from Roman to Roundhead, red-coat to mud-stained Tommy from the trenches of WW1 or the phantom pilot from WW2. Evidence suggests that many linger, not only as individuals but en masse, shocked, deeply traumatised, their spirits trapped by fear and terror on the sites of old battlefields.
