Synopsis

Two elderly East Texas sisters who have lived together all their lives and have learned the hateful, necessary contours of their shared existence gather with townspeople for the annual cleanup of the graveyard where family, friends and lovers lie buried.

Gerald Duff grew up in the petro-chemical area of the Texas Gulf Coast and in the pine barrens of Deep East Texas. After leaving Texas to study at the University of Illinois, he taught literature and writing at Vanderbilt University, Kenyon College, St. John's College of Oxford University, Rhodes College, and Johns Hopkins University. He has published thirteen books, including a memoir and collections of poetry and short stories. Dirty Rice is his eighth novel.
