It's the summer before senior year and the alluring Angel is ready to have fun. She's not like her best friend, Inggy, who has a steady boyfriend, good grades, and college plans. Angel isn't sure what she wants to do yet, but she has confidence and experience beyond her years. Still, her summer doesn't start out as planned. Her good friend Joey doesn't want to fool around anymore, he wants to be her boyfriend, while Angel doesn't want to be tied down. As Joey... more
I will be blunt and say...it's probably not fit for most YA readers...Angel Cassonetti has a lot of sex. With multiple guys... But what really got to me is that she didn't really face all that many consequences for her actions.
Full ReviewAngel tomcats around as much as, if not more than, any boy in the book...And while Angel’s freedom is not entirely without consequence, it’s refreshing to read about an adolescent girl who follows her hormonal urges without a fate worthy of an after-school special.
Full ReviewOne can almost smell salt and sunscreen in the air in this soulful and insightful coming-of-age story.
Full ReviewAided by a strong evocation of the tourist-driven rhythms of life on the Central Jersey Shore and a satisfyingly complicated, modern protagonist, this quick read will please readers looking for both nuance and heat in their beach books.
Full ReviewBauman...has a wonderful eye and voice...very ably keeps the characters true to themselves.
Full Review...an entertaining summer read that I enjoyed but somewhere along the line it fell flat for me... There was a lot of sex in this book, but I wouldn’t call any of it romantic or even cutesy..
Full Review...the whole story is told from Angel's point of view, but it felt really detached...This was actually a bonus...as it kept me feeling distanced from Angel's questionable actions.
Full ReviewI thought this book was horrible. Why? One word. Characters.
Full ReviewIt's not just that this book has some of the most explicit sex I've ever read in a YA. It's the attitudes behind the sex, the swearing, everything--a sort of bleak desperate mindlessness--that got me.
Full ReviewOverall, I kept reading this book because I kept waiting for Angel to get over herself and start making amends for her actions but when it became apparent that she wasn't going to do any of that, I was good and pissed.
Full Reviewbook that every reader would feel comfortable handing off to their 12-year-old child? Perhaps not. But I do think Angel’s perspective is unique, the writing evocative, and the mood beachy and sultry and all other things I like about summer.
Full ReviewJERSEY ANGEL is a beautifully written breezy read, and if you can get past the fact that Angel is, well, not usually doing herself any favors, you’ll see that this is a book that is not only about growing up, but about growing.
Full ReviewOnce I picked it up, I just couldn't put it down...Bauman's writing style is quick, descriptive, and immediately pulled me in.
Full ReviewReaders must take this book for what it is and recognize that Angel is a tragically flawed main character that will take readers on a journey of sexual escapades.
Full ReviewEverything about Beth Ann Bauman’s Jersey-shore-set novel feels half-baked: the characters are flat and lifeless, the story meanders to nowhere, and everything feels…off-kilter in some way.
Full ReviewThe story is easy to follow, with lots of romantic drama as well as a few good catfights.
Full ReviewWild animals would have more class and grace then Angel...She has not one moral bone in her body, she is snarky and rude, she sleeps around, betrays the people she supposedly cares about, and more.
Full ReviewEven though I don't agree with many of Angel's choices, it's refreshing to see an author that addresses the fact that teen girls have hormones, too.
Full ReviewBauman captures a small Jersey sea side town perfectly, with the array of characters, both good and bad.
Full ReviewJersey Angel is plot light in that it doesn’t really have much of a plot. It’s just a breezy summer read with added raunch.
Full ReviewThere are many things about Angel that made for a great character. She's a strong, confident girl who has a grounded attitude towards sex and love.
Full ReviewThere was a lot of promise to Jersey Angel but ultimately I think it fell flat for me...However, with it being a YA bodice ripper, it will pretty much sell itself to teens.
Full ReviewDerogatory names for a deragtory character. The truth is the truth.
Full ReviewFor a novel that’s supposed to reveal the people behind the stereotypes Jersey Shore has perpetuated, all I got was a book about cheating and about how you won’t face any consequences for partaking in it.
Full ReviewAngel, our narrator, is simply an unlikable person...There was just so much in this novel that was unbelievable that I would almost call this a fantasy book instead of a contemporary novel.
Full ReviewAs far as YA heroines go, Angel is my least favorite... the only thing she seems to be focused on is sex, sex, and oh yeah did I mention? more sex.
Full ReviewAngel Casonetti is exuberant, big-hearted and larger-than life, and even when she's doing stuff that will make you want to shake her, you can't help but love her.
Full ReviewSeriously, there was very little plot to speak of...There was no big mystery (other than how many people she’d sleep with before the end of the book), drama or climax...
Full ReviewThis book has nothing to do with anything except Angel getting it on with every guy she ever made eye contact with...I really can’t stress how misleading the synopsis is and how wrong the message...
Full ReviewI mean no disrespect to the author when I say this, but this book was a complete waste of two hours of my life.
