Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a heart-warming story depicting an extraordinary experience. The book, though almost 130 pages, is filled with many up-close pictures of seagulls, as captured by photographer Russell Munson. Richard Bach brings us a story filled with emotion, potential, and spirit.

This book is not particularly profound. It is sufficiently ambiguous that different readers will focus on different aspects of the story and take away different messages. But there is something undeniably compelling about Bach's fundamental faith in the individual.

In rereading the book for this review, I was surprised to find how short it is. The text is interspersed with lots of black and white photos of gulls, some blurred to abstraction...To this day, I still smile when I see a gull flying by, which is quite frequently, considering my suburb is near Lake Erie.

An absolute must read for absolutely everyone interested in self-awareness. And it’s a tiny book, really, filled with nice seagull pictures. There really is no excuse.

This was an interesting story that only took a short time to read. It can be read as a simple story about a bird who transcends the typical life of a seagull and becomes more. Or it can be read as a philosophical or even political statement if you want to get deeper...
