Synopsis

Larry Wohlgemuth made it out. He suffered severe sexual and physical abuse from ages 3 to 11, then he dealt with complex PTSD for four decades before finding the solution. Destined to be a high achiever, his life devolved into a world filled with alcohol, drugs, and unfulfilled potential. When he recovered repressed memories of the abuse in 1992, he suffered a complete breakdown. It cost him his home, his job, and his family, not to mention five years out of his life. In 2006 it was recommended he try Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and his life was transformed. In this book, Larry reveals what his life was like, and more importantly what he did to free himself from PTSD. It's a must read story of recovery and transformation that will inspire all who read it.

Conservative estimates are that one in six men in the United States are sexually abused before the age of 16. That means at least 25 million men were sexually assaulted as children. Other than misdeeds by the church, no one is talking about this issue. For Larry, that wasn't acceptable, and he decided it was time to act.

Logically, the first thing for him to do was to speak out and tell his story, which is the purpose of this book. He speaks publicly about his experience as a sexual abuse survivor as well as a victim of crime. He served as the keynote speaker at the National Crime Victims' Rights Week celebration in Des Moines, Iowa in April, 2012. His position on the Iowa Crime Victims Advocacy Board begins June 1, 2012. He takes every opportunity to explain to people both the consequences of childhood sexual abuse, as well as where they can find help.

So if you have suffered sexual abuse as a child, or you know someone who has, this book is here to give you something to which you can relate. It's crucial that you know that you're not alone. Others have found a way out, and you will too. It's Larry's sincere hope that his book will help you on your way.
