Synopsis

Kasey Laughton is in trouble in more ways than one. Too many losses, too much betrayal and too much confusion has combined to make her distrustful, too tough and secretly self-destructive. When she finds herself on the mind of a sadistic killer, her life is spun around drastically by old friends, quick events and the appearance of Gina Cessario, an FBI agent with secrets of her own. Who will survive the mind games, and who will find redemption? MAIN CHARACTERS Kasey Laughton – Kasey Laughton knows all about the concept of tragedy. After losing most of her family, and feeling betrayed by those she trusted, she’s descended into the only place she feels safe. Distrustful, sarcastic and sometimes self-destructive, she plays to the extremes, unable to tell who she can talk to and who she can’t. She talks tough and acts tougher. When she’s targeted by a ruthless killer, Kasey has no choice but to find someone to trust, and quickly, before she winds up on a road she can’t come back from. In the process she remembers who she was, learns how to reach for what she wants, and struggles to find her unique definition of redemption. Gina Cessario – Gina Cessario is obsessed with tracking down a killer she believes has murdered similar-looking people in several big cities. When she hears of another possible link, she races to Martin’s Bluff to assist in any way she can. When her own secrets come out, she’s forced to abandon her usual methods and instead finds herself stuck like glue to Kasey Laughton, the woman who appears to be next on the killer’s hit list. While dealing with the disruptions in her own life, Gina ends up being the only person who can pull Kasey back to center, which proves to be no easy task. As the endgame comes closer, Gina has to decide where she really belongs, and her obsession changes from who she wants dead to who she wants to live. Justin Rangley – Rangley has been Kasey’s protector since childhood, until a series of events and misunderstandings got in the way. Now as Sheriff he finds himself desperate to once again protect someone who isn’t always interested in being saved. Lisa Bolin – Lisa Bolin is not only Kasey Laughton’s last living relative. She’s also one of the few people Kasey still relates to. Known for her sweetness and universally loved throughout town, Lisa is a gateway to the normal life Kasey doesn’t even know she wants. She’s far more than just the queen of “hot chocolate and raisin’ wildflowers.” Her main desire is to get back the niece she loves so much. When Lisa gets caught up in a killer’s games, she serves as the catalyst for the final fight that will end a town’s terror, one way or another.

Christy Summerland likes to write with a rock and roll sensibility. Her main characters are typically outgoing yet wounded, and come across with a lot of attitude. While none of her characters are based on a specific person or persons, she does throw some of herself into the main character (Kasey Laughton in Like Dark Minds), mixed up with some of her favorite wild women in fiction and life. You can visit her website at www.ChristySummerland.com or on Facebook and Twitter.
