Lord Tyger (the latest in Titan’s reissuing of Philip José Farmer’s works) is perhaps one of the better books to start with, as it's not part of any on-going series which makes it a lot easier to get into.

What Farmer has done here is to take a long, hard look at the scientific implausibility of Tarzan of the Apes, and what might happen if someone with unlimited resources should try to recreate the circumstances of Tarzan’s jungle upbringing with a real baby.

Though the reader is also in a position to realise that Tyger is no noble Tarzan, nor does he adapt to the outside world as readily as Tarzan did, even though Boygur has recreated Tarzan's tragic early life.
