Synopsis

Roger Zelazny burst onto the SF scene in the early 1960s with a series of dazzling and groundbreaking short stories. He won his first of six Hugo Awards for Lord of Light, and soon after produced the first book of his enormously popular Amber series, Nine Princes in Amber. In addition to his Hugos, he went on to win three Nebula Awards over the course of a long and distinguished career. He died on June 14, 1995.

This is a strange and fascinating book. How to describe it? Imagine Edith Hamilton's Mythology, but with much better weapons.

Lord of Light...is a must read for any science-fiction fan...Mythic in scope, poetic in execution, the novel reads like an epic of ancient times, suffused with technology and science beyond modern standards.

Through the nearly forty years since I first read its opening words, Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light has remained one of the benchmarks against which I measure all science fiction. Few entries in this field, if any at all, have surpassed it.
