Synopsis

“The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times Bestselling Author Angela Knight) returns as J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world—at last....

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: it seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward…

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one.

It’s hard for me to evaluate this book, as I found even at the end of it, I had no emotional investment in either Blaylock or Qhuinn...They spent literally 95% of the book going back and forth, miscommunicating and acting like children. Then they have one conversation in a bar, and next thing you know, they’re...together forever.

...Blay and Qhuinn's story was given short shrift amongst the many other repetitious plot lines, and was boring to boot.

Overall, their chemistry was missing an emotional level that should have been prominent in this book given the mutual attraction and love they have fought against for so long. More than anything it lacked romance and intimacy.

I really feel that this book represents what I love about the Black Dagger Brotherhood so much — the action, the silly humor and the emotional romance J.R. Ward can write so well.

This is a story of courage, acceptance, forgiveness, belonging, and true love. Through it all I never grew tired of the fist pump, high-five, happy dance, jaw-dropping moments. Nothing about this book disappointed me, except well…….it ended.

... the romance parts of the story just weren’t up to the standard of the earliest BDB books. For me, Qhuinn and Blay’s romance just doesn’t pluck the heart strings and push all the emotional buttons...

I really, really enjoyed this one. The emotionally charged story between Blay and Qhuinn reminded of Zsadist’s story and it had me hooked from the very beginning.
