I always love Kate and Curran’s developing relationship, and I cannot give it enough praise. I love that they made me like an Alpha hero (because to say that I usually don’t would be a huge understatement).

Synopsis

Magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake in this gripping novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Kate Daniels series.

After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Kate and Curran know that separating from the Pack completely is a process that will take time.

But when they learn that their friend Eduardo has gone missing, Kate and Curran shift their focus to investigate his disappearance. As they dig further into the merc’s business, they discover that the Mercenary Guild has gone to hell and that Eduardo’s recent assignments are connected in the most sinister way…

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece.

After the hell ride of the previous books, MAGIC SHIFTS seems a little more mellow in the first half. It takes its time exploring a bit of what daily life with Kate and Curran is when they aren't immersed in blood and gore. But then it zooms forward with action, suspense, and plenty of intrigue to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

I could go on and on, but how much gushing can I do before it gets a little embarrassing? I will say that I beta-read for this book, but almost all of the magic in the final product was already there in its earlier incarnation. Fans of the series shouldn’t miss this one.

I enjoyed the use of Persian and Arabian myths in the story. The authors really do a lot of research and it shows. I did feel that they did go a wee bit overboard with their monster this time, but since I enjoyed the book immensely, I didn’t care.
