PAT BRISSON has always loved the beach and especially the Jersey shore. She is the author of more than twenty books for children, including "Bertie's Picture Day; Little Sister, Big Sister; "and "Hot Fudge Hero," which was named a Parents' Choice Honor Book and one of New York Public Library's "100 Titles for Reading and Sharing." Ms. Brisson lives in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.SACHIKO YOSHIKAWA grew up in Tokyo but spent many summers visiting the beaches of southern Japan. Her childhood memories served as inspiration when creating the pictures for this book. Ms. Yoshikawa is also the illustrator of" Stars," She lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband. Stephane Jorisch's work has won many awards, including three Governor General's Awards for Illustration. He lives in Montreal, Quebec.

at the very least, readers will want to know why Mama is in jail and for how long (when her daughter repeatedly asks Mama when she's coming home, the mother replies in a kind of refrain, "As soon as I can, Sugar, as soon as I can").
