Synopsis

In this fantasy based roughly on a past event, Anij is separated from his parents as they and their fellow islanders are moved from Bikini, where nuclear testing has somehow gone wrong. The small boy suffers in the strange environment of a naval vessel, and in the even stranger surroundings of a naval compound in Hawaii. And then, when the navy decides to go home, what is to happen to the islanders—and Anij?

He finds his way to a city, and soon hunger pangs convince him that he will need to find a way to survive in a place where he does not speak the language, still cannot find his parents, and knows no one.

The surprising ways in which Anij meets this challenge lead him down paths he could never have imagined back at home on Bikini.
