Ex-mental patient and cab driver Scott Moody, recently suspected of a murder in Spokane, is recovering in a Spokane suburb by dating the daughter of the town's wealthiest citizen. This unexpected good fortune makes him as uneasy as it make him happy--the universe may be planning a trap. As it turns out, he is right and soon enough another murder has been committed and once again he is under suspicion. Moody finds his obsessive thoughts about mortality all too relevant as he heads to Palm Springs to investigate the owners of an office building shaped like a pyramid and occupied by a company by the name of The Longevity Institute of the Desert.
