"Why did you bring me here? What are you?" I asked, scared and confused.
"You shouldn't be afraid of me, Sabrina Sterling," he responded, "I'm not going to hurt you."
His voice was deep and surprisingly melodic; it felt soothing to my nerves and my fear abated a little.
"How did you run so fast through the woods?" I asked. "What are you?"
He was silent a long time, as if he were weighing his next words. His hands shot through his already tousled hair, giving him a boyish appearance and he let out a long sigh. Kneeling beside me on the rock, he looked into my eyes.
"I'm a vampire," he said simply.
"A vampire?" I repeated.
"You're kidding me, right?" I asked incredulous. "They don't exist."
It was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard. Even though I was alone in the woods at night with my stalker, I found his confession oddly amusing. I had to look away in case I started laughing. He didn't share my humor. When I looked back at him, I could see anger in his eyes and his nostrils flared.
"You don't believe me?" he asked in a low dangerous voice.
I quickly schooled my features. He looked angry and I didn't want to antagonize him further.
"No, I do…it's just…vampires…they're not real. They like a myth, you know?" I babbled on.
Crane looked at me, a mocking gleam in his eye.
"A myth?" he asked, as he smiled at me revealing his shiny white teeth.
"Yeah, they're not…What the hell!?" I screamed as he unsheathed his two front incisors, revealing sharp fangs. I tried to scramble back on the rock to put as much distance between us as possible, but he grabbed me by the arm in a tight grip and held me down.
"W-what are you going to do to me?" I asked.
"I'm going to do what I've wanted to do since I first saw you," he said in a low voice.
