He was a young man, like many other young men, uncertain of life, frightened by the responsibility of becoming "grown-up". Thisis the story of the outstanding events that occurred in his life. It is taken from an accumulation of notes hehad written over a vast period of time. Itbegins before the United Statesentered the Second World War, and it carries on through until it was finished. But wars are never really over in the lives ofthose who have suffered from it. We weretrue friends, and it was Jake's earnest desire that I should try to make something outof the notes. I suggested that it washis story, that I should not become involved with it. But he pleaded with me to go ahead and do thestory, because he felt that it might possibly help someone to believe. . . . . Secondis "Manny Bordeaux".
