Synopsis

WHAT IS JESUS WORTH TO YOU?

It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...

BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

He claims that radical abandonment to Jesus will not remain complacent or stagnant, but will get up and go in obedience to The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16.

I believe Platt to be writing from the deepest passions within himself in “Radical Together” and it flows from a depth that was surely placed there by God for the benefit of the church today.

Patheos

(I would, for example, call Platt’s — and many other evangelicals’ view of God requiring a bloody, suffering death for salvation — to be not only horrific theology, but also a theology of divine child abuse.) I have taken the time to briefly outline these differences because these two perspective...

David Platt, pastor of Church at Brook Hills in Alabama, may be quiet, unassuming, and modest, but his book Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From The American Dream is anything but.

Maybe it says more about where I am and what I feel God’s doing in my life, but I was staggered by the juxtaposition of Platt’s vision of the Christian life versus my own life.

Discerning Reader

Platt, however, says it should be: If people are dying and going to hell without ever even knowing there is a gospel, then we clearly have no time to waste our lives on an American dream.
