Neil Gaiman was born in Portchester, England on November 10, 1960. He worked as a journalist and freelance writer for a time, before deciding to try his hand at comic books. Some of his work has appeared in publications such as Time Out, The Sunday Times, Punch and The Observer. His first comic endeavor was the graphic novel series The Sandman. It is the comic book he is most famous for and the series has won every major industry award, including 9 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, 3 Harvey Awards, and the 1991 World Fantasy Award for best short story, making it the first comic ever to win a literary award. He writes both children and adult books. His adult books include Stardust, which won the Mythopoeic Award as best novel for adults in 1999; American Gods, which won the Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, SFX, and Locus awards; and Anansi Boys. His children's books include The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish; Coraline, which won the Elizabeth Burr/Worzalla, the BSFA, the Hugo, the Nebula, and the Bram Stoker awards; The Wolves in the Walls; and The Graveyard Book, which won the Newbery Award in 2009. He also co-wrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchett. He is currently working on making a film of one of his early books, Neverwhere. Jill Thompson is a comicbook artist. She graduated in 1987 from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and has been working as a cartoonist and illustrator ever since. Jill has risen to the top of her field and has garnered acclaim for her work on WONDER WOMAN, SWAMP THING, BLACK ORCHID and the award winning title SANDMAN with Neil Gaiman. In 1997, Jill's first children's book, THE SCARY GODMOTHER was released to critical acclaim. Subsequent books in the series include Scary Godmother-The Revenge of Jimmy, Scary Godmother-The Mystery Date and Scary Godmother-The Boo Flu. Select Scary Godmother stories have been translated into Spanish by La Factoria, into Italian by Kappa Edizione and into German by Ehapa. Jill travels the US and beyond meeting fans and speaking about comics, literacy and art. She enjoys working with other writers and artists from time to time and most recently has collaborated with former wrestler turned author Mick Foley and illustrated MICK FOLEY'S HALLOWEEN HIJINX which debuted at number seven on the New York Times children's book best seller's list.

A couple of the stories find Gaiman working in a more experimental mode than usual, notably "Fifteen Portraits of Despair," a set of anecdotes and prose poems accompanied by Barron Storey's tormented, abstract drawings and paintings.

The method by which the fox thwarts the murder of this humble and gentle man will bring tears to your eyes --- as will the actions of the monk when he learns of the fox's sacrifice, for it is not only the fox who has fallen in love.
