Linda Fairstein is an assistant district attorney and crime novelist. She graduated from Vassar College with a major in English Literature in 1969 and received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972. She was appointed to the staff of the New York County District Attorney's office in 1972. She investigated crimes of sexual assault and domestic violence. She retired in 2002. She has served on the boards of such groups as New York Women's Agenda Domestic Violence Committee and President Clinton's Violence Against Women Advisory Council. In 1993, she was named Woman of the Year by New Woman Magazine and Glamour. She is also the author of a popular series of crime novels featuring Alexandra Cooper, a woman running the sex crimes prosecution bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney's office. In addition to her Alexandra Cooper books, she has written a nonfiction book, Sexual Violence: Our War Against Rape, that was named a New York Times Notable Book of 1994.
