Some regard Graysha Brady-Phillips as the Goddard’s colony’s greatest threat. In fact she may be the key to its survival.

Graysha had two reasons to accept an offer to assist in terraforming the planet Goddard: She needs the money. But even more important, she needs the planet’s colonists to come up with a cure for the genetic ailment that has the potential to kill her.

But such genetic engineering has been banned by the Eugenics Board for decades. The penalties for conducting the radical research are heavy—irradiation and even death.

And Graysha’s problem is made worse because she has a personal connection to the board’s commissioner: her own mother. Graysha is not surprised to be ostracized when the colonists learn of this bond.

Though Graysha endeavors to do her job amidst growing tension, soon she is dodging attempts on her life.

Even as Graysha questions whether her hopes are worth the peril, she realizes she has grown attached to her new world. But that world is being threatened, and she must decide if she is willing to fight for a place to call home.

“Shivering World” is an engrossing, thought-provoking tale, full of intrigue and suspense, set on a world so believable and so fully realized I felt like I was there. Good job.—Karen Hancock, author of “Arena” and “The Light of Eidon.”

“Shivering World” has it all—a strange new world, complex and believable characters, and a multi-threaded storyline. In short, exactly what you’d expect from the incredibly talented Kathy Tyers. Top-flight science fiction that is a joy to read.—Randall Ingermanson, author of “Oxygen” and “Premonition.”
