The olive baboons of White Rock are restless from the unforgiving dry season and discontented in the leadership of their alpha female. In their ardent desire for change, an election is proposed to change the system of their social structure. Six hopefuls step to vie for dominance, each one pledging to lead the troop towards greatness and abundance: Flen, the cunning alpha female; Gris the acerbic alpha male; the King, an exiled tyrant; Chaz, the religious charlatan; Mort, a sickly beta male; and Umpa, the cantankerous nuisance. But in the process, they discover more about themselves and one another--a discovery that would change all of them, and perhaps not for the better.
