Quite a departure for Virgil and Lucas, but this is not a case that plays to their considerable strengths.

STORM FRONT is a lot of fun and is more of a caper novel --- and perhaps a bit more lighthearted --- than the other volumes in the series.

The beauty of Sanford's writing is that the narrative of the book is told in perfect harmony with Flowers' personality. The descriptions of the plot and the locale of the story have the same laconic quality as Virgil's tone and speaking habits. You seem to be in Virgil's mind and thoughts as the narrative unfolds.

There always is strong character development, sparkling dialogue and ingenious plots in Sandford’s writings. Often, the ending of a case does not go the way of the righteous and the law, but it is always a surprise conclusion. That holds true here.

...the obsession with Ma’s luscious body lends a sophomoric bent that is both gratuitous and ridiculous. Either Flowers is strictly a man’s man or Sandford is having a midlife crisis. In either case, the edge I associate with this author’s work has lost a few of its teeth.
