Pansie Hart Flood grew up in the heart of the South as the youngest of seven children. Fond memories of summer visits to her grandmother's gave her the inspiration and vivid setting for her first book, Sylvia & Miz Lula Maye. She still recalls being kept awake many summer nights in South Carolina by "an insect that sounds like a cricket the size of an elephant." Pansie has her bachelor's degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, where she lives with her husband and two children. Felicia Marshall is the illustrator of a number of books for children, including Sylvia & Miz Lula Maye, Down Home at Miss Dessa's, and Keepers. She teaches art in Houston, Texas, where she lives with her husband and son.
