The story is set in 1982. David James is married with four-year-old twins, and a mortgage. He is also unemployed, unhappy, and desperately trying to save both his marriage and his home. While out walking alone in the countryside one evening, he meets a strange but beautiful girl named Emma. It is a meeting that is to put the lives of both his of wife and his children in deadly danger. It stirs up a one hundred and fifty year old murder, committed by the daughter of an English aristocrat.
