Synopsis

The Captain's Conspiracy by James McCarthy
The year is 1880. The SS Ferret, a former ferry owned by the Highland Railway Company, is chartered for a cruise of several months in the Mediterranean, ostensibly for the health of the Captain's wife. In Glasgow, the vessel is appropriately modified and provisioned expensively before she sails. But with destinations unknown, weapons in the cargo and the Captain and his healthy-looking 'wife' occupying separate cabins, the crew become nervous and suspicious. What is the Captain up to?

This true, action-packed story following the Ferret's voyage has been fictionalised by James McCarthy, a respected author of historical non-fiction. This is his first novel.
